Shruti Haasan Discusses Skepticism Towards Marriage and Motherhood

Indian actress Shruti Haasan has shared her thoughts on the institution of marriage during an appearance on a podcast hosted by Soha Ali Khan. Haasan, who has been close to marriage in the past, expressed her reflections on what such a commitment means to her.

Haasan stated that she finds the legal implications of marriage unnecessary for validating a relationship. She remarked that the concept of elaborate weddings does not resonate with her, emphasising the significance of personal choice over societal expectations. In her words, she prefers to choose her partner daily rather than being bound by a legal document.

The actress articulated, "I enjoy that my partner and I pick each other every day, but not because of the paperwork." She raised a thought-provoking question regarding the expenses associated with weddings, asking, "Who are we doing this for?" Haasan indicated that large spending on weddings could be reconsidered, suggesting that funds could be better redirected towards charitable causes.

This perspective reflects Haasan's belief that commitment is more crucial than adhering to a traditional timeline or hosting a grand ceremony. She has expressed comfort with the idea that her life might not conform to conventional narratives.

In addition to discussing marriage, Haasan shared her desire to embrace motherhood. She stated, "I would really love to just be a mum," noting her openness to various paths to motherhood, including adoption and conceiving biologically.

She clarified that motherhood, for her, does not have to coincide with marriage, reinforcing that her personal choices are driven by her own desires rather than societal norms.
