Shooting at Youth Welfare Centre in Germany Claims Six Lives
A shooting in Stade, Germany, leaves six dead and several injured, with the suspected shooter arrested. Motive remains unclear.

Six individuals were killed and numerous others injured following a shooting at a youth welfare centre in the northern German city of Stade, according to local police reports. The incident occurred on Monday, prompting a swift response from law enforcement agencies.

Authorities confirmed that the suspected shooter was apprehended shortly after the shooting. The motive behind the attack is currently unknown. In a statement, the police noted, “Homicides involving multiple victims occurred at a youth welfare facility.” They further indicated that five people were fatally injured at the scene and that the sixth victim succumbed to injuries later in hospital.

The police operation took place on Dankersstrasse, located south of Stade's city centre. Residents were advised to avoid the area and to heed the instructions of emergency services, although police did later assure the public that there was no ongoing threat to safety.

Reports from German media suggest that four of the deceased were women. The welfare centre serves as temporary accommodation for pregnant women and young mothers with children, heightening the tragedy of the event.

Footage shared by Bild newspaper showed a vehicle with a deflated right tyre coming to a stop on a tree-lined roadway, with armed police rushing to apprehend individuals associated with the scene. In the aftermath, the area was cordoned off as forensic teams in white suits and plainclothes officers arrived to gather evidence.

While the primary suspect was arrested without incident, police also stated that two additional individuals were subjected to police scrutiny on suspicion of involvement in the attack.

Stade is situated approximately 45 kilometres (27 miles) west of Hamburg and has a population close to 50,000. This tragic event has shocked the local community and raised concerns about safety and violence in such facilities.
