Shafali Verma's outstanding performance takes India to the Women's Asia Cup 2026 final after a decisive win against Bangladesh.

India's women's cricket team secured a place in the final of the 2026 Women's Asia Cup after defeating Bangladesh by 40 runs in the semi-final held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday. Shafali Verma played a pivotal role in India's victory, earning the Player of the Match award for her remarkable innings.

The match began with Bangladesh winning the toss and opting to field. India's initial batting proved challenging, with early wickets falling but Shafali Verma's contribution was significant. She scored 64 runs off 40 balls, helping push India's total to 149 runs.

In the first innings, India's batting struggled initially. After 10 overs, the team was at 59 runs with two wickets already lost. However, Verma's explosive performance and a late surge from Deepti Sharma, who scored 13 runs off just six deliveries, bolstered India's score.

India concluded their innings at 149 for six after 20 overs. Bangladesh's bowlers fought back but struggled to contain Verma, who provided a crucial middle-order performance.

In reply, Bangladesh faced intense pressure from the Indian bowling attack. Following a shaky start, they lost wickets at regular intervals. After six overs, Bangladesh was at 26 runs with one wicket down. As the run rate soared, the team faltered, ultimately scoring only 109 runs in response to India’s total.

Nandani Sharma's impressive fielding led to a bizarre dismissal for Bangladesh, with Rabeya Khan being hit-wicket as she lost her balance while attempting a sweep shot. The match witnessed Bangladesh's batting lineup collapse under the escalating pressure, with three wickets falling for just 33 runs in the final overs.

As the runs became scarcer, Bangladesh faltered with their batting strategy, falling further behind in the required run rate. In the end, India’s disciplined bowling and fielding efforts ensured a comprehensive victory.

India's Captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, expressed her pride in the team's performance, highlighting Verma's pivotal innings as a turning point in the match.

With this win, India now looks ahead to the final, aiming to secure the title in the ongoing tournament.
