Satwik and Chirag Win First Singapore Open Title in Badminton
Indian duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty secure their inaugural Singapore Open crown after a tense final against Indonesia's elite pair.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have made history by winning their first Singapore Open title, securing a 18-21, 21-17, 21-16 victory against Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in the men's doubles final at the BWF Super 750 tournament held in Singapore on May 31, 2026.

After dropping the initial game in a closely contested match, the Indian pair raised their game considerably to dominate the second and early third games. This victory marks a significant milestone for Satwik and Chirag, who became the first Indian players to win the doubles title at the Singapore Open.

The victory ends a title drought for the duo, who last lifted a trophy at the Thailand Open in 2024. Since then, they had reached four finals but finished as runners-up in each one. Their win in Singapore also counts as their ninth career World Tour title and their third triumph at the Super 750 level.

At the finals, Satwik and Chirag entered with a history of 1-2 against their Indonesian opponents, having lost to them in the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Open earlier in January 2026.

The Indian pair's success in Singapore was built on a week of impressive performances, including a semi-final upset against reigning world champions and top seeds, Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae of South Korea. Celebrations erupted as soon as they secured the winning point, with Satwik and Chirag sharing a joyous moment flat on the court. Satwik celebrated with a baby-themed gesture, while Chirag expressed his excitement with a loud roar before embracing his partner. They concluded their victory with a dance, reveling in their much-anticipated return to the top of the podium.
