Samsung to Introduce Brain Health Feature Targeting Dementia Detection
Samsung's upcoming Brain Health feature aims to identify early dementia signs and offer prevention strategies at CES 2026.

Samsung Electronics is reportedly set to unveil a new feature focused on brain health at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026, which takes place in January. This innovative feature is designed to detect early indicators of dementia, a condition impacting approximately 6 million people in the United States alone.

According to a report by Sammobile, the Brain Health feature will monitor various metrics such as gait patterns, vocal changes, and sleep quality. These metrics may be assessed through Samsung's array of devices, including smartphones, smartwatches, and smart rings, although specific device applications have yet to be confirmed.

In addition to detection capabilities, Samsung plans to provide users with guidance and preventative measures aimed at cognitive health. This may include a brain training programme intended to enhance cognitive functions, as indicated by the same report from Sammobile.

The feature is said to have completed in-house development and is currently undergoing clinical validation, as reported by ChoSun. This represents a significant advancement in Samsung's health tracking capabilities, which have previously focused primarily on physical health indicators.

Samsung's recent health initiatives have included advanced monitoring features integrated into their Galaxy Watch series. For instance, the Galaxy Watch 8 introduced a sensor that assesses skin antioxidant levels by having users press their thumb against it. This feature is designed to measure carotenoids, which are linked to healthy ageing, derived from the consumption of fruits and vegetables.

Beyond standard health monitoring functions such as blood pressure tracking and electrocardiogram (ECG) capabilities, Samsung's latest smartwatch models have incorporated features to assist users with sleep guidance and training for physical activities.

Research indicates that over 42% of adults aged 55 and older are likely to develop dementia, highlighting the need for proactive health monitoring solutions. Samsung's forthcoming Brain Health feature marks a notable shift towards cognitive health tracking, expanding the focus of health devices from purely physical conditions to include mental and cognitive assessments.

The efficacy of using biomarkers such as gait, sleep patterns, and vocal changes to evaluate cognitive function remains to be seen, with many awaiting further details during Samsung's official announcement at CES 2026. Samsung has yet to respond to requests for comments regarding this new feature and its functionalities.
