Rishabh Pant Aims for Historic Milestone in 600th Test for India

India's wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is set to make history as he approaches a remarkable milestone in Test cricket. The upcoming match against Sri Lanka, beginning on Saturday in Galle, marks India's 600th Test, a significant achievement for the national team. During this match, Pant is just three sixes away from becoming the first Indian batter to hit 100 sixes in Test cricket.

Currently, the 28-year-old batsman has hit 97 sixes in his 50 Test appearances, making him India's leading six-hitter in this format since he surpassed Virender Sehwag's previous record of 90 sixes in November 2025. Pants' milestone chase began when he hit his 91st six against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Pant's impressive six-hitting record places him among an elite group of cricketers. Only three players prior to him have achieved the 100 sixes milestone: England's Ben Stokes, New Zealand's Brendon McCullum, and Australia's Adam Gilchrist. Stokes holds the record with 138 sixes, while McCullum has 107 and Gilchrist completed the list with exactly 100.

Rishabh Pant began his Test career in August 2018 during a match against England at Trent Bridge and has garnered 3,557 runs, which includes eight centuries and 19 fifties, at an average of 43.37. His recent performance in the Afghanistan Test in June, where he scored 81 runs and hit three sixes in an over from Abdul Malik, showcases his capability to reach the coveted 100 mark in sixes.

Furthermore, Pant is also on the verge of another significant achievement. He requires just 220 more runs to become the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to score 3,000 runs in the World Test Championship (WTC). As of now, he has accumulated 2,780 runs from 71 innings across the four editions of the WTC.

The first Test against Sri Lanka will be followed by a second match in Colombo starting on 23 August, giving Pant further opportunity to add to his records and help India solidify its position in cricket history.
