Richa Chadha Commends Salman Khan's Stand Against Body-Shaming
Richa Chadha praises Salman Khan's remarks on body-shaming in Bigg Boss 20, highlighting the impact on women, particularly new mothers.

Indian actress Richa Chadha has applauded Salman Khan for his recent comments against body-shaming during an episode of Bigg Boss 20. His discussion focused on the trolling of women regarding their weight, age, and appearance, bringing attention to the wider issue of societal scrutiny faced by women, particularly those who are new mothers.

Salman Khan’s remarks, made during the Weekend Ka Vaar segment, were notable for addressing sensitive subjects without referencing specific individuals. He highlighted the troubling tendency for people to troll others over various personal aspects, stating, 'Why do you want to troll? Uske wazan par, uske looks par, uske khaandaan par, kisi ke smile par, kisi ke flop par, kisi ke maa banne par, aap apni upbringing dikha rahe ho.'

This commentary was particularly timely in light of recent discussions surrounding actress Katrina Kaif, who faced criticism over her postpartum appearance after attending a family celebration with her husband, Vicky Kaushal.

In her response to Salman’s comments, Richa Chadha referred to the actor's remarks as commendable, stating, 'I didn’t know he spoke about it but it’s great! It’s a magnanimous thing to do.' She emphasised the need for men to acknowledge their role in the discourse surrounding body image and the expectations placed upon women.

Furthermore, Richa condemned the ridicule directed at women, especially mothers, regarding bodily changes post-childbirth. She stated, 'They cannot exist without us. All of them came from a womb. In the natural order of things, if you start to make fun of mothers, it backfires very badly.'

Richa’s insights also stemmed from her own experiences in an industry where body image is heavily scrutinised. She has been open about her struggles with body image, including facing criticism and dealing with an eating disorder amid industry pressures to conform to conventional beauty standards.

Salman Khan's remarks and Richa Chadha's reaction highlight the ongoing conversation about body positivity and the necessity of addressing harmful societal norms. The dialogue continues to resonate within the entertainment industry and beyond, as more individuals speak out against the negative impact of trolling and body-shaming on mental health.
