Rashmika Mandanna Addresses Accent Criticism in Film Industry

Rashmika Mandanna, a prominent actress known for her work in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, and Hindi cinema, has recently shared insights on the trolling she faces regarding her accent and language proficiency. In an interview with the Hindustan Times, she highlighted the evolution of her multilingual career and the unplanned nature of her journey across various film industries.

Rashmika disclosed that her mother tongue is Kodava Takk, which lacks a significant film industry. This situation necessitated her involvement in other languages as she entered the film world. 'I am a Kodava and speak Kodava Takk; we don't have an industry for my mother tongue. So language has never been a barrier in my career. I treat all languages as my own,' she explained.

Furthermore, she addressed criticisms regarding her accent and pronunciation. Rashmika does not regard herself as an expert in any specific language, identifying more as a 'Jack of all trades, master of none.' Importantly, she emphasised that communicating with audiences in their native languages matters more to her than perfecting fluency or pronunciation. For her, speaking to audiences in their language signifies respect.

According to Rashmika, her foray into varied industries was facilitated by audience support, mentioning that fans first encouraged her to take up projects in Telugu, paving the way for her eventual entry into Hindi cinema. Despite facing social media backlash for her dialogue delivery and pronunciation in different languages, Rashmika prefers to focus on her work rather than engage with negative commentary. 'As an actor, my job is to tell good stories on set and come back,' she stated, reiterating her commitment to delivering strong performances rather than responding to every piece of criticism.

Rashmika made her debut in Kannada cinema with the film Kirik Party in 2016 and soon followed with her Telugu debut in Chalo, Tamil debut in Sulthan, and Hindi debut in Goodbye. Her continued success across multiple Indian film industries showcases her versatility.
