Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expresses commitment to help protesters in Jharkhand, demanding action on alleged recruitment exam irregularities.

Protests have erupted in Jharkhand over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressing readiness to assist those involved. Ravindra Paswan, a student leader among the demonstrators, reported that Gandhi assured them of support during a phone conversation on Thursday.

Paswan conveyed that Gandhi requested details regarding the protesters' demands and pledged to communicate with the state government on their behalf. The protesters are calling for the cancellation of the 14th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Civil Services Examination. They are also seeking an independent investigation into the supposed irregularities, which could be conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a panel of retired high court judges from outside Jharkhand.

Additionally, the demonstrators have called for comprehensive reforms in both the Jharkhand Public Service Commission and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission. As part of their protest, six demonstrators have been on a hunger strike for 13 days, highlighting their frustration and demands for action.

Ravindra Paswan shared, “I had a conversation with Rahul Gandhi. I apprised him of the ground situation here, specifically, how the exam mafia is flourishing.” He urged Gandhi to clarify the Congress party's position regarding the issues at hand, given that the party is part of the ruling coalition led by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).

Paswan also expressed that if the Congress cannot persuade the Jharkhand government to address the students' demands, it should consider withdrawing from the coalition on moral grounds. He stated, “Rahul Gandhi asked us to send our demands. He said that he has taken the matter seriously and will do whatever lies within his power to help.”

This situation arises against a backdrop of concerns regarding the integrity of recruitment processes in the state, where students are increasingly demanding accountability and reform to ensure fair opportunities in public service positions. As protests continue, the response of both state officials and political leaders will be crucial in determining the outcome of the ongoing situation in Jharkhand.
