Prime Minister Modi Engages Leaders of UAE, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Ethiopia

On Saturday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a series of bilateral talks with the leaders of the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Ethiopia. The discussions took place during the BRICS Summit and centred on vital topics such as critical minerals, energy resources, and food security, aiming to mitigate the impacts of increasing global tensions on trade and supply chains.

In his meeting with Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Modi addressed the geopolitical situation in West Asia. He emphasised the importance of strengthening the India-UAE strategic partnership across various sectors including defence, artificial intelligence, space exploration, and connectivity. Modi stated, “A strong India-UAE is a symbol of stability, prosperity and peace,” highlighting the partnership's significance during uncertain times in the region.

Modi also held discussions with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar bin Ibrahim, focusing on various cooperation facets such as trade, investment, and defence. Anwar expressed Malaysia’s support for the establishment of an Indian consulate in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the dialogue also included a review of advancements in the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Malaysia, with both leaders expressing a commitment to enhance their bilateral relations further.

The dialogue with Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung primarily revolved around enhancing trade and investment ties. The Ministry of External Affairs stated the meeting allowed both leaders to assess progress in their Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, reaffirming their mutual commitment to bolster their collaboration.

Moreover, discussions with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali were focused on expanding bilateral relations, particularly in defence and trade. The leaders reviewed advancements in economic cooperation and capacity building, building on Modi’s visit to Ethiopia in December last year. Both leaders reaffirmed their dedication to work closely in multilateral forums, highlighting the importance of the strategic partnership between India and Ethiopia.

Overall, the bilateral talks during the BRICS Summit marked a significant step in fostering stronger international relations amid global uncertainty. Modi’s engagements with the leaders demonstrate a proactive approach to strengthening India’s global partnerships across various critical sectors.
