PM Modi Launches Free Online Coaching for Competitive Exams

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a new initiative on Saturday, introducing free online coaching for competitive examinations during his address on Independence Day from the Red Fort in New Delhi. Modi highlighted that the existing coaching classes pose a significant financial burden on underprivileged and middle-class families. He stated that young individuals should have the opportunity to remain close to their families instead of incurring high costs associated with private coaching.

"The competition surrounding coaching classes has become a huge burden for middle-class families. Every parent feels that if they do not send their child to a coaching centre, they are somehow falling behind or do not belong to a respectable family," Modi remarked. He emphasised that the initiative aims to help families save substantial amounts of money which currently goes towards coaching.

He further elaborated, "Therefore, we have decided to provide free online coaching for various competitive examinations for our youth," pointing to the digital public infrastructure available in the country along with skilled educators ready to assist.

The announcement comes on the heels of youth-led protests demanding accountability and transparency in examination processes, notably a significant demonstration at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.

Furthermore, Modi called upon the youth to actively participate in the upcoming national Census. He urged young people to take leadership in this effort, asserting, "What can I possibly do for the country in one or two hours? Let me tell you — those one or two hours can become a great source of strength for the nation."

He advocated for fostering a sense of participation within households as India prepares for its Census in 2027, emphasising its importance in shaping policies and initiatives. "The details help shape policies and schemes. They help the country prepare its roadmap for development. Therefore, it is very important that we have accurate information," he stated.

Additionally, Modi addressed the issue of Marxist extremism, noting that it is diminishing in India. He noted the destructive impact of Maoist ideologies on the future of many youths, stating, "Over 3,500 security personnel died protecting people; the number is higher than those who die in war." He expressed satisfaction at the progress made since 2014 in combating Naxal insurgencies, declaring, "I am happy Maoist violence is taking its last breath."

Modi concluded his address by acknowledging that many areas have become free from Naxalite influence and are on the path to development, signalling a strong resolve to continue these efforts.
