PM Modi Engages Business Leaders in Malaysia, Emphasises Growth Potential

On February 8, 2026, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with prominent business leaders from Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur to discuss potential collaborations and investment opportunities. During the meeting, he expressed appreciation for the active interest shown by Malaysian companies in what he referred to as the "Indian growth story."

Modi's engagements included discussions with several key figures in the Malaysian business sector. He interacted with Tengku Muhammad Taufik, the president and group CEO of PETRONAS, and other industry leaders such as Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, founder of Berjaya Corporation Berhad; Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir, managing director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad; and Pua Khein Seng, founder of Phison Electronics.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs stated that the Prime Minister focused on strengthening energy partnerships, particularly in renewable sources and clean fuels, noting the significant presence of PETRONAS in India. Modi highlighted discussions about new opportunities in green hydrogen and green ammonia, essential elements in the transition to more sustainable energy practices.

Vincent Tan indicated a desire to expand Berjaya's presence in India, particularly within the dynamic consumer and services sectors. Meanwhile, Pua Khein Seng expressed interest in participating in India's rapidly growing technology and innovation ecosystem, notably in the semiconductor industry.

Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir remarked on India's ongoing economic transformation and its status as a prime investment destination. Modi underscored the government's reforms aimed at enhancing ease of doing business in India, which he described as creating a stable and predictable business environment.

The Prime Minister urged Malaysian businesses to take advantage of opportunities in various sectors including infrastructure, renewable energy, digital technology, artificial intelligence, and healthcare. Industry leaders reciprocated by expressing confidence in India's potential for growth and voiced interest in increasing their business engagements there.

The meeting also included interactions with executives from other Indian and Malaysian firms. Modi praised the recent convening of the 10th India-Malaysia CEO Forum, held the previous day, emphasizing its role in fostering deeper trade and investment ties between the two nations. He expressed optimism about the benefits that such forums bring to bilateral relationships.
