Pati Patni Aur Woh Do: First Day Box Office Collection Revealed
The romantic comedy drama Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, featuring Ayushmann Khurrana, premiered in theatres on May 15, 2023. The film has received largely mixed reviews from critics and general audiences alike. On its opening day, the film fell short at the box office, earning ₹2.99 crore across 6,554 shows, and significantly lagging behind the 2019 film Pati Patni Aur Woh, which starred Kartik Aaryan and opened with ₹9.10 crore.
According to industry analysts at Sacnilk, this marks one of the lowest opening figures in Ayushmann Khurrana’s career. The occupancy rates were also notably low, with only 5.38% attendance during morning screenings, 10.92% in the afternoon, and 10.46% during evening shows.
While some praise has been directed towards the film's humour and comic timing, others critiqued it for relying on outdated and repetitive jokes. Nonetheless, the performances from the cast received widespread acclaim from viewers and critics.
On social media, Ayushmann Khurrana shared a heartwarming video featuring his mother’s reaction to the film. In the clip, she is seen blessing him and expressing her approval of the movie. Ayushmann stated, “Mother has given her blessings. She says your film is very good… She laughed a lot after a long time while watching #PatiPatniAurWohDo.”
Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the cast also includes Sara Ali Khan, Wamiqa Gabbi, Rakul Preet Singh, and Vijay Raaz. The storyline follows Prajapati, played by Khurrana, a forest department official who helps his friend Chanchal elope from her disapproving father. This leads to a series of comedic misunderstandings, particularly when his colleague mistakenly believes he and Chanchal are having an affair.
A review in Hindustan Times remarks that “Pati, Patni Aur Woh Do is the kind of film that knows exactly what it wants to be and rarely loses sight of it.” The film skillfully intertwines misunderstandings and vibrant performances, providing enough entertainment to justify its storyline, despite some uneven segments.
