OPPO Launches Reno 16 and Reno 16 Pro with Advanced Features
OPPO has unveiled its latest smartphones, the Reno 16 and Reno 16 Pro, in China, introducing notable upgrades to the Reno lineup. Both devices boast enhanced camera capabilities, larger batteries, and improved processing power.
The standard OPPO Reno 16 features a 6.32-inch flat OLED display with a resolution of 2640x1216 pixels. It supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and achieves peak brightness levels of 3,600 nits. The Reno 16 Pro comes with a larger 6.78-inch OLED display, offering a resolution of 2772x1272 pixels, while maintaining the same refresh rate.
Performance-wise, the Reno 16 is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 8550 Super chipset, whereas the Pro model is powered by the faster Dimensity 9500s. The Reno 16 packs a 6,700mAh battery with 80W fast charging, while the Pro model features a 7,000mAh battery with both 80W wired and 50W wireless charging capabilities. This represents an upgrade from last year's 6,500mAh battery, although the advantage it offers in real-world usage remains to be seen.
In terms of photography, both models share a robust triple-camera setup. This comprises a primary camera with a Samsung HP5 200MP sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a telephoto camera with 50MP and 3.5x optical zoom capabilities. A 50MP selfie camera rounds out the imaging features.
The devices come with several additional features including an IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K rating for water and dust resistance, NFC connectivity, stereo speakers, and run on ColorOS 16 based on Android 15. Notably, the Pro version supports Wi-Fi 7, while the standard model is equipped with Wi-Fi 6.
Colour options for the Reno 16 include Galaxy Purple, Heartbeat, and Moonlight Is Dark, while the Pro model offers Dream White, Heartbeat, and Moonlight Is Dark. Both smartphones are currently available for purchase in China.
The pricing for the OPPO Reno 16 starts at CNY 3,499 (approximately £405) for the 12GB RAM version with 256GB storage, while the top version with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage is available for CNY 4,899 (around £550). For the Reno 16 Pro, the base model begins at CNY 3,699 (about £420) and can go up to CNY 4,799 (approximately £540) for the high-end variant.
A global launch is anticipated in the upcoming months, particularly in June or July, with India expected to be one of the key markets. A device associated with the Reno 16 series has already received certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), indicating a readiness for market entry.
As consumers look for devices with dependable camera performance and robust software support, the how well OPPO delivers on these attributes will be crucial in appealing to potential buyers. For those using older models or requiring stronger battery life, the launch in India will be noteworthy to follow.
