Yogi Adityanath mandates strict security measures and bans public animal sacrifice in Uttar Pradesh during Eid-ul-Azha.

As Eid-ul-Azha approaches, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, has directed state officials to enhance vigilance across the region. During a meeting held on 24th May 2026, he outlined several regulations aimed at maintaining law and order during the celebrations.

One crucial directive is that ritual animal sacrifices will not be allowed in public spaces and must only take place at designated locations. The Chief Minister reiterated the ban on the sacrifice of prohibited animals and insisted that no new traditions should be initiated during the festival.

In an effort to ensure peace, he instructed that prayers should take place exclusively at traditional venues, prohibiting any road blockades for worship. The Chief Minister emphasised that local administrations must oversee the removal of waste following sacrifices and take necessary action against illegal slaughterhouses. He stated that licensed facilities must adhere to prescribed animal limits.

Security measures also received focus, with Adityanath calling for heightened alertness regarding sanitation and power supply during the festivities. Flag marches in sensitive areas and continuous police patrolling around religious sites have been mandated.

The Chief Minister specifically engaged with district officials from sensitive areas including Aligarh, Bijnor, Saharanpur, Rampur, and Sambhal. He urged them to analyse past incidents to identify potential troublemakers and act preemptively if needed. Regular communication with local peace committees is to be maintained to foster community dialogue and ensure harmony.

Concurrent to preparations for Eid-ul-Azha, Adityanath reviewed arrangements for the Ganga Dussehra festival. He instructed officials to ensure cleanliness at key sites, including ghats, and called for the provision of amenities such as ambulances and shaded areas for devotees.

Furthermore, he announced the introduction of weekly community gatherings, known as 'chaupals,' at the block level. These meetings aim to address local grievances directly and assist eligible individuals in accessing government schemes. In a move to improve accountability, he insisted on the presence of district officials at these gatherings to actively manage the resolution of public concerns.

The Chief Minister has also noted the need for strict enforcement against illegal mining activities, emphasising the formation of task forces for this purpose. In terms of public safety, he mandated a crackdown on vehicles operating without number plates.

Lastly, urgent actions were called to fill vacancies for Chief Medical Officers in districts lacking such positions, reinforcing the administration's commitment to healthcare.
