Nothing Phone (3a) Community Edition Launches in India
Nothing Technology has introduced the Phone (3a) Community Edition in India, marking a significant step in its Community Edition Project. This limited-edition smartphone has been developed with input from its global community, highlighting the company's commitment to collaborative product creation. The initiative allowed creators to participate in shaping various aspects of the device, including hardware, software, and marketing.
The 2025 programme attracted over 700 submissions, demonstrating a growing interest among independent creators to engage with technology brands. From these entries, four contributors were selected to play pivotal roles in the design and development of the Phone (3a) Community Edition.
Design and Features
The hardware and packaging of the Phone (3a) Community Edition were crafted by designer Emre Kayganacl, who drew inspiration from popular technology designs of the late 1990s and early 2000s. This edition introduces a unique accessory, the Dice, created by Ambrogio Tacconi and Louis Aymonod. This collectible item showcases Nothing's Ndot 55 font and employs global symbols of play, aligning with the company's design philosophy.
On the software front, designer Jad Zock has customised the lock screen clock, featuring variable font weights for improved readability. The device also includes four exclusive wallpapers that complement the phone's colour themes. The marketing campaign, titled 'Made Together', was developed by Sushruta Sarkar to highlight the collaborative creation process.
Community Engagement and Investment
Nothing's collaborative approach extends beyond product design. The company has established an elected Community Board Observer and announced a new $5 million community investment fund, which is part of its $1.3 billion Series C valuation. Early access to this fund will be available to investors starting December 10, with public participation commencing on December 11.
Pricing and Availability
The Nothing Phone (3a) Community Edition is priced at Rs. 28,999 and is available in a single configuration featuring 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Only 1,000 units will be produced globally, and in India, the device will be available exclusively during a limited drop event on December 13, 2025, at 33&Brew, Prestige Technostar in Bengaluru, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. IST.
