Nita Ambani and Radhika Merchant Stand Out at Ganpati Celebrations
On September 13, the Ambani family celebrated Ganesh Chaturthi at Antilia in Mumbai, a lavish affair that drew Bollywood celebrities and close friends. Known for their grandeur, this year's gathering showcased distinct styles from Nita Ambani and Radhika Merchant, both of whom made notable fashion statements.
Nita Ambani turned heads in a striking silk saree featuring an orange-magenta combination, complemented by a contrasting gold border that visually enhanced her ensemble. Her choice of jewellery was particularly striking, highlighted by an impressive necklace that extended across her shoulders. This elaborate piece encompassed gold, diamonds, coloured gemstones, and pearls, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship that caught the eye of many.
In addition to the eye-catching necklace, Nita adorned herself with two gold and ruby bangles, known as kadas, and matching earrings called kaan pasha. Her makeup was elegantly understated, maintaining a matte finish that allowed her dramatic hairstyle, styled into a braid adorned with delicate flowers, to shine. As a final touch, she carried a gold potli, adding to her festive look.
Radhika Merchant, a trained Bharatanatyam dancer, also made a memorable entrance during the celebrations. She performed in a customised creation by designer Manish Malhotra. Her outfit featured handwoven Kanjeevaram silk in a rich jewel-pink hue intertwined with gold zari. The addition of antique-gold marodi embroidery and zardozi embellishments enhanced the richness of the fabric.
Rather than following the traditional six-yard format of a saree, Radhika's Kanjeevaram was innovatively transformed into a pre-stitched skirt silhouette. The pleats were designed for geometric symmetry, facilitating graceful movement in her performance, especially during the aramandi, a signature pose in Bharatanatyam. This blend of traditional textiles and modern design reflected not only Radhika's personal style but also paid homage to the Kanjeevaram legacy and its historical roots in Indian cultural craftsmanship.
Radhika’s overall appearance was styled by Esther Pinto, with makeup by Loveleen and hair styled by Flavien Heldt, creating a cohesive look that resonated with the elegance of the occasion.
The celebrations at Antilia were further enhanced by a star-studded guest list, including prominent figures such as Rekha, Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Kriti Sanon, Kajol, Katrina Kaif, and Vicky Kaushal, contributing to the festive atmosphere that marked this cherished event for the Ambani family.
