Murder of Pune Man Linked to Fiancée and Her Lover
The death of Ketan Agrawal, a 26-year-old real estate director, has drawn attention in Pune after a tragic incident at Lohagad Fort, where he was reportedly pushed nearly 400 feet on June 18. Initially deemed an accident, authorities have since uncovered details suggesting a calculated conspiracy involving Agrawal's fiancée, Siya Goyal, and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary.
The couple had planned a pre-wedding photoshoot trip to Bali, scheduled for early June. However, the trip was abruptly cancelled after Goyal misplaced Agrawal's passport, rendering him unable to travel. Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill stated, "After returning from the airport, they plotted their next steps."
Investigators utilised CCTV footage, which became crucial to the case. Upon reviewing the recordings, police noticed a young man in a suspicious hoodie following the couple's vehicle, a significant detail given the warm weather at the time. This individual, later connected to Goyal, was identified as Chetan Chaudhary.
Agrawal and Goyal had visited Lohagad Fort on June 14, but nothing untoward occurred then. When the couple returned four days later, the situation escalated. According to police reports, Chaudhary was present at the fort and allegedly pushed Agrawal from the edge.
The case shifted from an accidental fall to murder when police critically analysed the evidence, including statements from witnesses and family. Agrawal's father, Vishal Agarwal, filed a formal complaint which prompted the local authorities to register a case of murder and conspiracy.
Vishal Agarwal recounted the change in circumstances, stating, "Initially, we thought it was an accidental slip. However, Siya's behaviour and contradictions in her statements raised suspicions."
As part of the investigation, both Goyal and Chaudhary have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the murder, revealing that they had intended to kill Agrawal days earlier but failed to execute their plan on the first attempt. Prosecutors will continue to look into the potential involvement of Goyal's family, who some believe may have known about the plot all along.
Currently, Goyal and Chaudhary are in police custody and are expected to appear before the court as the investigation develops further. Authorities remain focused on gathering more evidence to strengthen the case against the accused and to understand the full extent of the conspiracy. Police officials have iterated that the focus will remain on securing justice for Ketan Agrawal, whose dreams and future were tragically cut short.
