Mumbai Man's Fabrication Leads to Kidnapping Complaint

In Mumbai, a man's attempt to cover up a trip with a female companion led to a police investigation after his wife reported him missing. The individual, 46 years old and based in Pune, is a laundry business owner who reportedly told his wife that he was travelling for business. However, his plans changed dramatically when immigration officials discovered that his friend was using an old passport, which she had previously reported as lost. On September 14, the man intended to fly to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with this companion. Once immigration officials flagged the issue, he panicked upon realising his wife would learn about her presence on the trip.

In an effort to explain his sudden incommunicado status, the man contacted his wife from a landline at the airport. He claimed he had to turn off his mobile phone due to immigration problems. After a brief video call the following day, where he reiterated his claims, his phone became unreachable. Concerned for his safety, his wife turned to the police, prompting them to file a First Information Report (FIR) for kidnapping.

It was on the same day that the man visited the Sahar police station after discovering the FIR against him. During his visit, he confessed to fabricating the immigration issue. A police officer from Sahar police station explained that the case would be treated with a 'C Summary' closure report. This classification is used for cases registered under misunderstandings or found to be partially true within a two-week period.

The incident highlights the complications that can arise from personal relationships and the legal system's response to perceived threats. As the investigation continues, authorities aim to ensure that such misunderstandings are clarified swiftly to prevent unnecessary alarm and resource allocation.
