Modi and Netanyahu Discuss India-Israel Relations and Gaza Peace Plan
NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, where they discussed the ongoing strategic partnership between India and Israel. The leaders expressed their commitment to enhancing cooperation and condemned terrorism in all its forms.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, both leaders were pleased with the progress of the India-Israel Strategic Partnership. They reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening their bilateral ties for mutual benefit.
During the call, Modi and Netanyahu voiced their strong condemnation of terrorism and reiterated their shared stance of zero tolerance towards it. The discussion also included the current situation in West Asia, where Modi highlighted India’s commitment to initiatives aimed at achieving a fair and lasting peace in the region, specifically mentioning the Gaza Peace Plan.
"We discussed our ongoing collaboration and reaffirmed our commitment to work together for peace and security in the region," Modi stated during the call.
This dialogue follows the postponement of Netanyahu's planned visit to India, which has been under discussion since 2023. The visit was initially scheduled before the significant escalation of violence in the region following the October 7 attacks by Hamas, which disrupted bilateral engagements.
With a fragile ceasefire currently in place in Gaza, both governments had previously considered rescheduling the visit for December. However, Netanyahu’s office later indicated that alternate dates are now being explored, with an anticipated visit occurring early next year.
The two leaders agreed to maintain close communication to ensure continued dialogue on important regional and bilateral matters.
