Modi and Macron Discuss AI and Trade in Bilateral Talks in France
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron in Nice, France, on Sunday. The talks covered a variety of topics, including artificial intelligence, trade, infrastructure, and health. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the discussions, emphasising the strengthening of the India-France partnership. Modi arrived in the coastal city on Saturday and officially inaugurated the 'Bharat Innovates' event alongside Macron.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, shared updates on the bilateral meetings via a post on the social media platform X. He mentioned that areas such as innovation, trade, sustainability, security, and cultural exchanges were on the agenda. The discussions yielded meaningful outcomes related to innovation and artificial intelligence, as well as advancements in science, space, and fintech. Key regional and international matters were also addressed.
Prior to his departure from New Delhi, Modi highlighted the significant role France plays in India’s strategic outlook and the growing collaboration between the two nations. He stated, “France occupies a special place in India’s strategic vision.” This meeting is particularly significant as Modi is also scheduled to participate in the G-7 Summit, where he will engage with other global leaders, including the President of the United States, Joe Biden.
The 'Bharat Innovates' event aims to position India as a global centre for innovation and technology. Modi expressed that India's youth are emerging as problem solvers, transitioning from being mere consumers of technology to active contributors. He described the ongoing change as an evolution in India's image—a transformation into a provider of technology-driven solutions.
French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated the strong partnership between India and France, particularly in sectors like artificial intelligence and climate action. Macron assured support for initiatives such as 'Make in India', while emphasising the potential for collaboration in nuclear energy and advanced technology development.
Modi's visit underscores the commitment of both nations to enhancing bilateral ties and fostering innovation. The discussions reflect a shared vision for a cooperative approach to global challenges, particularly in technology and sustainable development. As the two leaders concluded their talks, the representatives of both governments looked toward future collaboration that furthers their mutual interests and bolsters trust in technology.
With a growing startup ecosystem and a focus on human-centric technology, India’s role in global innovation is set to expand under the guidance of its leadership.
