Modi Criticises Trinamool Congress in Virtual Rally Address
Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a virtual address to supporters in Nadia district, West Bengal, on Saturday, 20 December 2025, following difficulties in landing his helicopter due to heavy fog. In this address, he promoted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as a catalyst for development in the state and called upon voters to consider electing the party to establish a 'double-engine government' in West Bengal.
During the rally, Prime Minister Modi launched a strong criticism of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), claiming that individuals he referred to as 'infiltrators' were receiving protection from the party. He accused the TMC of hindering the state's development for political gain, emphasizing that opposition should not come at the expense of progress.
"The TMC wants to oppose the BJP. Let them oppose us as fiercely as they want. But why should Bengal’s development be stopped? You may oppose Modi, but do not make the people of Bengal unhappy. Do not deprive them of their rights," stated Modi.
The Prime Minister highlighted his government's commitment to improving connectivity in remote regions of Bengal, which have faced long-standing challenges due to a lack of infrastructure. "Our attempts aim to ensure modern connectivity to Bengal’s remote and far-flung regions that have suffered for years on account of backwardness," he added.
Modi also referenced the development of Tripura, a neighbouring state, which he claimed has seen progress since the BJP came to power. "The Left destroyed Tripura during its three decades of rule. Today, after embracing the BJP, the state is developing rapidly," he said.
Furthermore, Modi pointed to the recent electoral success of the BJP in Bihar as an indicator of growing support for his party. "Bihar has once again given a massive mandate for development. It has rejected ‘jungle raj’ with one voice, and this has opened the doors for the BJP’s victory in Bengal as well," he remarked.
The Prime Minister concluded his address with a reaffirmation of his intent to combat corruption and nepotism in Bengal. "We will end TMC’s ‘maha jungle raj’ in Bengal, where corruption, nepotism and appeasement politics are ruling the roost. Let TMC oppose me and the BJP as much as it wants, but Bengal’s progress should not be stopped," he asserted.
Modi's remarks come as West Bengal approaches its next elections, with the BJP aiming to expand its influence in a state traditionally governed by the TMC and its leader, Mamata Banerjee. The Prime Minister's address reflects the BJP's ongoing strategy to position itself as a viable alternative to the incumbent government, focusing on development and good governance as key themes.
