Milap Zaveri Celebrates Success of Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat
Milap Milan Zaveri, known for directing films such as 'Marjaavan' and 'Satyameva Jayate', is currently celebrating a significant achievement with his latest project, 'Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat'. Starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, the film has successfully crossed the ₹100 crore mark at the global box office, with domestic earnings nearing ₹79 crore after a month in theatres. This success is particularly noteworthy as it faced stiff competition from the highly anticipated release of 'Thamma', featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna. The success of 'Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat' is a welcome turnaround for Zaveri, especially after the underwhelming performance of his previous film, 'Satyameva Jayate 2'.
Milap Zaveri expressed his astonishment and gratitude regarding the film's unexpected success. In an exclusive interview, he remarked, “It feels surreal, it feels amazing. I feel grateful, and it’s unbelievable. For a film that was produced on a modest budget, I always refer to it as a dark horse that nobody noticed.” The film's performance has led some publications to label it as one of the year's top hits, alongside others such as 'Chhaava' and 'Saiyaara'.
Reflecting on his journey, Zaveri acknowledged the challenges he faced following the disappointing reception of 'Satyameva Jayate 2'. During this difficult time, Harshvardhan Rane's willingness to join the cast was pivotal. Zaveri noted, “I must say I’m grateful to Harsh for agreeing to do the film because at that stage, nobody wanted to work with me. No other actor wanted to work with me because my last film had not done well.” Rane's agreement to participate followed a pivotal moment, as he heard the script on the day of the re-release of his earlier film, 'Sanam Teri Kasam'.
The film's success has rejuvenated Zaveri's career, and he is now preparing for his next project, 'Mastii 4'. He has been involved with this franchise since its inception and will be working with a familiar cast including Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani, Arshad Warsi, and Tusshar Kapoor. However, 'Mastii 4' will also face competition, as it is set to be released alongside Farhan Akhtar’s '120 Bahadur'.
In addition to its commercial success, 'Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat' has sparked discussions about its portrayal of romantic relationships. Critics have pointed out that the film appears to romanticise toxic masculinity, raising concerns about its narrative that frames obsession and possessiveness as forms of love. Viewers have reacted strongly on social media, accusing the film of glamorising harmful behaviours. One comment highlighted the troubling nature of the romance, stating, “What happened to ‘no means no’?” The film's storyline, which features a character whose possessiveness escalates, has drawn comparisons to other controversial films in the genre.
Despite the ongoing debate regarding its themes, Milap Zaveri’s current success has undeniably marked a notable comeback in his career. As he prepares for future projects, he has expressed a desire to continue evolving as a filmmaker while navigating the complexities of storytelling in contemporary cinema.
