Maharashtra Legislature's Winter Session Scheduled in Nagpur
The Maharashtra winter legislative session will take place from December 8 to 14 in Nagpur, with no breaks for the weekend.

The winter session of the Maharashtra Legislature is set to commence on December 8, 2025, in Nagpur and will continue until December 14, 2025. Notably, this session will take place without any weekend breaks. The decision to hold a shortened, one-week session was made during a meeting of the legislature's business advisory committee that was held on Wednesday.

Historically, the winter session in Nagpur has lasted approximately 10 to 15 working days, reflecting the state's commitment to decentralised governance. However, officials have indicated that this year’s session has been significantly abbreviated due to ongoing local body elections across the state. An official stated, "Due to the ongoing local body polls in the state, the session has been curtailed and will run for only one week."

During this session, the opposition parties are expected to raise several pressing issues, even in the absence of a Leader of the Opposition in both houses of the legislature. Key topics likely to be addressed include the agrarian crisis resulting from unseasonal rains, the plight of farmers affected by crop insurance fraud, the demand for Maratha reservations, and allegations of corruption against various ministers.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is anticipated to face scrutiny from opposition members regarding the Pune land scam case involving his son, Parth Pawar. Furthermore, concerns surrounding corruption and irregularities in the current civic body elections are also expected to dominate discussions in the assembly, according to opposition leaders.

Bhaskar Jadhav, a member of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction), has voiced criticism of the state government's decision to limit the session's duration. He asserted that the government is attempting to avoid confrontation with the opposition due to the number of corruption scams currently under scrutiny.

In preparation for the session, it is estimated that approximately ₹100 crore will be allocated for renovations and construction work within the city, ensuring that the venue is equipped to host the legislature effectively.
