Kuwait's Military Intercepts Iranian Drone Attacks Amid Tensions
Kuwait City has reported that the country's armed forces are actively intercepting drone attacks believed to be launched from Iranian territory. The developments follow recent military escalations, including US airstrikes in the region. The Kuwaiti General Staff confirmed on Thursday that air defence systems have engaged multiple incoming threats, attributing the explosions heard in the area to these defensive actions.
The military labelled the attacks as a form of 'criminal Iranian aggression,' underscoring the seriousness of the situation. Authorities have advised the public to adhere to official safety and security instructions in light of these ongoing threats.
This current round of tensions is rooted in a broader conflict involving the United States and Iran, particularly concerning the Strait of Hormuz—an essential maritime passage for global oil shipments. As reported by various news outlets, the US has intensified its military operations against Iranian targets in recent days, which has prompted retaliatory actions from Iran.
Prior to the drone attacks on Kuwait, Iranian military forces targeted US facilities in Bahrain, alleging the strikes were in response to US attacks on civilian facilities, including a children’s cancer hospital in Iran's Khuzestan province. This hospital was reportedly evacuated due to safety concerns stemming from nearby military actions.
Iran's military leadership has issued statements asserting that their operations are defensive, aimed at protecting national sovereignty against foreign aggression. Meanwhile, Kuwait's armed forces have reiterated their commitment to ensuring national security and have stated that they will not allow foreign powers to use their territory for acts of aggression.
As tensions escalate, local and regional military officials are urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. In a coordinated response to this conflict, Jordan has also confirmed interceptions of multiple Iranian missiles aimed toward its territory.
Regional experts are closely monitoring the situation, with concerns that these hostilities could further destabilise the delicate balance of power in the Middle East. Kuwait has made a public appeal for calm while making it clear that its air defence systems are prepared to respond to any further threats.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office has called on both the US and Iran to de-escalate hostilities and recommit to ongoing negotiations aimed at achieving stability in the region. Observers note that the cycle of escalation has significant implications for both regional security and international maritime routes.
