Karnataka's New Chief Minister D K Shivakumar Sworn In with Cabinet
D K Shivakumar takes oath as Karnataka Chief Minister with 13 ministers, continuing the legacy of Siddaramaiah's government. No women included.

D K Shivakumar was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on Wednesday, taking the oath of office alongside 13 other ministers. This new cabinet sees a continuation of leadership from the previous Congress administration led by Siddaramaiah, with 11 of the inducted ministers having held positions in that government.

Among the cabinet members, only Yathindra Siddaramaiah, the son of the former Chief Minister, and U T Khader, who previously served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, are new faces. Curiously, the first phase of this cabinet formation did not include any women.

G Parameshwara, a senior Dalit leader, assumed the role of Deputy Chief Minister. The group of ministers features notable figures including K H Muniyappa, K J George, M B Patil, Ramalinga Reddy, Satish Jarkiholi, Krishna Byregowda, Priyank Kharge, Eshwar Khandre, Byrathi Suresh, and Sharan Prakash Patil.

A Congress leader remarked, "While looking at this new cabinet, it may appear that Siddaramaiah's print is clear on it. However, this may also mean that many fresh faces may be inducted in the next phase of cabinet formation."

The total sanctioned strength for the Karnataka ministry, including the Chief Minister, is 34. The cabinet reflects a balance of political representation, featuring three ministers each from the prominent Vokkaliga and Veerashaiva-Lingayat communities, alongside an equal number of Dalit ministers. Additionally, there are two ministers from the Kuruba community, which is Siddaramaiah's community, and one minister each representing the Scheduled Tribes, Christians, and Muslims.

Geographically, four ministers hail from Bengaluru Urban, while others represent Kalaburagi, Bengaluru South, Bengaluru Rural, Tumakuru, Vijayapura, Bidar, Dakshina Kannada, Belagavi, and Mysuru districts.

This cabinet formation marks a pivotal moment in Karnataka's political landscape, emphasising a blend of continuity and potential future changes.
