Karnataka Chief Minister Appeals for Support from PM Modi

Karnataka's Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend his support for the development of the state. His appeal was made during a public gathering at Ramakrishna Ashrama in Mysuru, where the Prime Minister inaugurated the 'Viveka Smaraka' memorial on Saturday.

In his address, Shivakumar expressed pride in Modi's visit to Mysuru, citing the inspirational words of Swami Vivekananda, who emphasised resilience in both victory and defeat. He urged the Prime Minister to demonstrate generosity in supporting Karnataka, a state he described as pivotal in shaping India’s global image.

The Chief Minister reflected on the historical significance of Karnataka, remarking that it has transitioned into a city that world leaders now prefer to visit first before heading to Delhi. He highlighted that the state holds substantial strength, characterised by its favourable climate and rich culture.

Shivakumar reiterated his desire for cooperation with the Union Government, framing it as essential for Karnataka's growth. He stated, "Let us work together in Federalism to make this Country proud. Karnataka stands with you. India has to grow with Karnataka. Let us build Karnataka and a strong India."

He also referenced the contributions of previous leaders, specifically mentioning Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who laid the foundation stone for Bengaluru International Airport. Shivakumar underscored the importance of historical figures, including the Wadiyar Maharajas, pointing out their role in advancing science education through their donations of land to institutions such as the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru.

Additionally, Shivakumar conveyed his continued commitment to the principles of Swami Vivekananda, stating plans to establish youth clubs across villages and cities to foster cultural and sports activities aimed at enhancing youth potential. He labelled this initiative as part of a broader vision for a 'Yuva Yuga, Nava Yuga', or a new era for youth empowerment.

The memorial launch signifies a crucial moment for the youth movement in India, as noted by Shivakumar. He praised the Vivekananda Cultural Youth Center at Ramakrishna Ashrama, acknowledging its contributions to youth guidance through various programmes, and assured that the state government would support their efforts.

Overall, Shivakumar's remarks encapsulate a desire for collaborative growth and the promotion of Karnataka as a cornerstone of India's progress on the global stage.
