Ivan Toney Charged with Assault Related to Nightclub Incident
England footballer Ivan Toney faces assault charges stemming from a nightclub incident in London last December. He is set to appear in court soon.

England international footballer Ivan Toney has been charged with assault following an incident at a nightclub in Soho, London. The 30-year-old striker currently plays for Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League and was charged on 31 July.

The charges relate to an alleged altercation that occurred on 6 December last year at a venue located on Wardour Street. According to the Metropolitan Police, Toney has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.

Toney is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 24 September to address the charges. A spokesperson for Toney commented on the matter, stating, "Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court."

The footballer began his career at Northampton Town and has had stints with Newcastle United, Peterborough United, and Brentford before his recent transfer to Saudi Arabia in 2024 for a reported fee of £53.8 million, approximately $72.3 million. In the previous season, Toney was notably prolific, scoring 42 goals.

Toney's international career took off in 2023, when he made his debut for the England national team. He appeared in two matches during the 2026 World Cup, including the bronze final victory against France, where he played a pivotal role.

The upcoming court appearance will determine the next steps in this legal matter. Al-Ahli is set to begin their new season on 13 August 2026 against Diriyah Club, coming off a third-place finish in the previous season’s Saudi Pro League.
