Iran's Houthi Rebel Spokesman's Account Suspended on X Platform

Yahya Saree, the spokesperson for the Iran-aligned Houthi rebels in Yemen, has seen his account on the social media platform X suspended. The suspension follows rules violations, though the specific reasons for this action are unclear. Saree's account boasted over 121,000 followers and was a vital communication channel for the militants, providing updates on their military activities.

The Houthis have been involved in ongoing conflict since 2014, attempting to seize control of Yemen's capital, Sana’a. This conflict has drawn in various external actors, including Saudi Arabia and Iran, complicating the regional landscape. The removal of Saree's account may hinder the flow of information about the group’s activities, particularly regarding their actions in the Red Sea and attacks aimed at Saudi Arabia.

In a related humanitarian update from the Gaza Strip, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported alarming conditions concerning water access. It stated that more than 1.3 million residents in Gaza have access to less than six litres of water daily for drinking and cooking. The emergency threshold for adequate access is 15 litres per person.

Furthermore, around 700,000 people in Gaza are receiving fewer than nine litres each day, severely affecting hygiene and sanitation for families. Approximately three-quarters of the population rely on water trucks, while only half of the households have access to basic sanitation facilities. The ongoing water crisis in Gaza underscores the need for immediate humanitarian assistance in the region, particularly amid escalated violence and conflict.
