Iran Exhibits Wreckage of Downed US Military Aircraft and Drones

The Iranian government has publicly displayed images of wreckage from various military aircraft alleged to have been downed during recent hostilities with the United States. Among the recovered items is the wreckage of an F-15E Strike Eagle, identified by its markings as aircraft number 00-3000, which participated in missions during what is termed the US-Iran conflict. The aircraft, known as DUDE 44, was shot down over Iran in early April.

Analysis of the aircraft's operations indicates that it was involved in intercepting multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), reportedly taking down at least nine drones using AIM-9X Sidewinder missiles earlier in the 2023-24 deployment. The photographs released show significant debris, including the aircraft's canopy and the ACES-II ejection seat, displayed within underground facilities in Iran.

In addition to the F-15E wreckage, the display includes remnants of MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper drones. The MQ-1 Predator's loss also encompasses instances from the US Army's MQ-1C Gray Eagle variant. The F-15E involved belonged to the 48th Fighter Wing, based at RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom, which deployed a substantial number of its active fighter aircraft as part of Operation Epic Fury.

The exhibition also features debris from an Israeli Hermes drone, specifically one identified by serial number 923, which was downed in March. Reports suggest that remnants of a C-130 aircraft could also be part of the display, though they are less identifiable from the imagery shared.

Iran has a history of showcasing captured military technology, with previous notable instances including the RQ-170 Sentinel drone, which Iranian authorities claimed to have captured through a cyber operation. This display of military wreckage is seen as Iran’s attempt to project its military capabilities and technological advancements in the region.
