Iran Attacks Kuwait Airport Amid Ongoing US-Israel Tensions
Iran launched drone and missile attacks on Kuwait’s international airport on June 3, 2026, injuring at least 63 individuals, according to Kuwait’s Health Ministry. The assaults targeted the ‘T1’ terminal and resulted in significant disruption, with officials reporting one fatality, identified as an Indian national. Flights were redirected following the incident, which has drawn widespread international concern.
The attacks are viewed as part of rising tensions in the region, particularly between Iran and the United States. In a related development, President Donald Trump characterised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as ‘crazy’ during a recent interview, expressing irritation that ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon is obstructing peace discussions with Iran.
Kuwait’s Defence Ministry reported it intercepted 13 missiles that entered its airspace during the Iranian strike. Spokesman Saud Abdulaziz al-Atwan labelled the event as a ‘heinous Iranian aggression’ and noted that debris from intercepted missiles fell in residential areas. Additionally, the Armed Forces engaged 17 hostile drones during the incident.
In response to the situation, Kuwait’s government categorically rejected any claims from Iran, which suggested that the US had utilised Kuwait’s territory for launching strikes. Deputy Foreign Minister Hamad Suleiman Al-Mashaan stated, ‘These allegations are baseless and do not rely on evidence.’
The US military confirmed it successfully defended against several Iranian attacks in the Gulf, including self-defensive strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island. It rebuffed claims from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards regarding strikes on American military bases in Bahrain.
The regional situation remains volatile, with recent exchanges of fire occurring as the Israeli military stated it intercepted a ‘hostile aircraft’ from Lebanon. Earlier today, Israel conducted airstrikes in southern Lebanon, resulting in the death of six individuals, according to medical sources.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed their attacks on Kuwait were retaliatory, motivated by US strikes against Iranian assets. The Guards stated these actions targeted specific military locations, including the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.
Diplomatic efforts to mitigate the conflict continue, with Israeli and Lebanese diplomats resuming direct talks in Washington for the fourth time since the onset of hostilities on March 2. Amidst these discussions, concerns over civilian safety and international stability persist, as nations monitor the unfolding developments closely.
