Cherry XTRFY Launches K63W Pro: First Ultra-Wideband Gaming Keyboard
Cherry XTRFY has introduced the K63W Pro, touted as the world's first gaming keyboard with ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. Priced at €179.99 in the European Union and expected to launch in the United States for $169.99 in August, this wireless keyboard is specifically designed to meet the needs of competitive gamers. One major challenge at gaming tournaments—wireless interference—can severely disrupt performance. Traditional 2.4 GHz connections often become congested amidst numerous devices, leading to dropped inputs during critical moments.
The K63W Pro seeks to address this issue by employing UWB technology, which operates across a broader frequency range compared to the typical 2.4 GHz band. This allows for less signal disruption from nearby devices. A report by Tom’s Hardware highlighted that the keyboard polls at an impressive 8,000 Hz, significantly more frequently than the 1,000 Hz common in most gaming keyboards. While this high polling rate may seem excessive for casual users, it can provide substantial advantages for professional players in high-stakes environments.
In addition to the improved polling rate, Cherry XTRFY emphasises that its UWB technology results in more accurate signal timing and higher communication speeds, which can alleviate latency problems typically associated with wireless devices.
The design of the K63W Pro has also been optimised for esports. It retains a full function row and arrow keys but reduces the navigation keys to maximise mouse movement space. The keyboard utilises Cherry MX Low Profile 2.0 switches, aiming to deliver a softer sound profile while maintaining performance. A 6,000 mAh battery promises up to 1,100 hours of usage, depending on the polling rates and RGB lighting settings.
With a release date set for July in Europe and August in the US, the significance of the K63W Pro's advanced technology will largely depend on the user's environment. Competitive gamers, particularly those who frequently face wireless interference, may find this innovation transformative, while casual players might not perceive the same benefits. As Cherry XTRFY continues to push the boundaries of gaming peripherals, the K63W Pro marks an important step in merging advanced wireless technology with professional gaming performance.
