Investigation Unfolds in Andhra Pradesh Murder Case Involving Money Dispute

The disturbing case of a 30-year-old woman’s murder has emerged from Andhra Pradesh, shocking the local community and prompting an ongoing investigation. The victim has been identified as Valluripalli Kalyani, a resident of Eluru district who moved to the Mangalagiri area near Vijayawada. The investigation began when an unidentified body's torso was discovered in a cooling canal on September 18. Initial investigations revealed that Kalyani had been reported missing shortly before the body was found.

Authorities have arrested 35-year-old Mohd Shafi, a butcher with a shop in Bhavanipuram. Reports from Hindustan Times suggest that Kalyani went to Shafi's home on September 17, following communication regarding financial assistance. It is alleged that an argument ensued, leading to a fatal confrontation in which Shafi purportedly attacked Kalyani with a knife, resulting in her death.

According to West Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police N S V K Durga Rao, Kalyani’s dismembered body was discovered in various parts, including the head, legs, and arms. A crucial breakthrough in identifying Kalyani came when her brother recognised a distinctive tattoo on her hand, allowing investigators to confirm her identity.

Police reports indicate that Kalyani had made multiple calls to Shafi prior to the incident. CCTV footage allegedly captured Kalyani entering Shafi's residence on the afternoon of September 17. The investigation is still focused on the intricate circumstances leading up to the murder, particularly examining Shafi and Kalyani’s relationship, which had been complicated by prior disputes, notably involving Kalyani's son.

Additional scrutiny has also been placed on a second suspect, known as Durga Rao alias Abdullah, who allegedly assisted Shafi in dismembering Kalyani's body and transporting it to the canal. As of now, Durga Rao remains at large. Early reports had mentioned another individual named Guruvulu, but current accounts seem to underline the involvement of Durga Rao more prominently.

After the gruesome discovery, authorities conducted extensive searches in the canal with the help of the National Disaster Response Force, leading to the retrieval of further remains. Forensic evidence, including bloodstains found at Shafi's residence and call records, is vital to the case as the police scrutinise the sequence of events.

A murder charge has been formally filed following a complaint lodged by Kalyani’s brother, initiating legal proceedings against Shafi. Investigators are focusing on collecting and reviewing all relevant material, including witness statements and forensic data, to establish the full extent of events that transpired.

This tragic case has raised serious concerns in Andhra Pradesh about safety and the potential consequences of unresolved disputes. Kalyani's family, devastated by the loss, is seeking justice as the investigation continues to unfold.
