Anthropic Expands Operations with New Office and Partnerships in India
Anthropic, a prominent artificial intelligence company, has officially launched its Bengaluru office, reinforcing its commitment to the Indian market. India is considered the second-largest market for Claude.ai, with local developers actively engaged in advanced AI projects. Notably, approximately 50% of the AI usage in India focuses on tasks related to computer and mathematical applications, such as developing new applications and modernising existing systems.
Irina Ghose, Managing Director of Anthropic India, remarked, "India represents one of the world’s most promising opportunities to bring the benefits of responsible AI to vastly more people and enterprises." She underscored India's potential, citing its robust technical talent, digital infrastructure, and a history of leveraging technology to enhance everyday life.
As part of its new initiatives, Anthropic has formed partnerships across various fields, including agriculture, education, and enterprise. The company has launched efforts to improve AI models to cater better to India's diverse linguistic landscape, which includes over a dozen officially recognised languages. Six months ago, Anthropic initiated a project to enhance the quality of training data for the ten most prevalent languages in India: Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, and Urdu. These advancements aim to enhance the fluency and effectiveness of AI models, particularly for native language speakers.
To ensure the practical application of these improvements, Anthropic is collaborating with organisations such as Karya and the Collective Intelligence Project to develop evaluations that assess AI performance in relevant domains like agriculture and law. These evaluations will be created in partnership with leading Indian non-profits, including Digital Green and Adalat AI, with a view to improving future models and extending their usage in critical sectors.
The company's expansion strategy has seen its run-rate revenue in India double since its announcement in October 2025, reflecting significant growth across a spectrum of organisations—from large enterprises to innovative startups. In response to this expanding customer base, Anthropic's team in India is prepared to offer tailored AI expertise to companies, assisting them in the design, creation, and scaling of Claude-powered solutions.
Prominent companies in India are already adopting Claude's capabilities. Air India is employing Claude Code to expedite software development, while CRED reported improved feature delivery speeds and enhanced test coverage. Cognizant plans to implement Claude across its workforce of 350,000 to modernise outdated systems and foster AI integration among its clients.
In the startup sector, companies like Razorpay and Enterpret are incorporating AI into their operations. Razorpay utilises AI for risk management while Enterpret has launched an AI assistant powered by Claude. Emergent, which enables users to develop software through plain language commands, has soared to $25 million in annual recurring revenue within five months using Claude's framework.
Education also plays a vital role in Anthropic's strategy. The nonprofit Pratham has selected Anthropic as its inaugural strategic AI lab partner, launching the Anytime Testing Machine for 1,500 students as part of a pilot programme aimed at enhancing accessibility to educational resources.
Anthropic is also collaborating with the Central Square Foundation to harness AI and EdTech to better serve children in underprivileged areas. This partnership focuses on developing AI tools intended to elevate educational outcomes and provide personalised learning experiences.
With agriculture employing nearly half of India's workforce and contributing substantially to the national economy, Anthropic's objectives include leveraging AI to optimize agricultural practices. The company aims to enhance access to agricultural knowledge through initiatives like OpenAgriNet.
Addressing judicial challenges, Anthropic is backing Adalat AI in launching a WhatsApp helpline to provide real-time updates on legal cases in native languages, thereby improving access to judicial information for citizens.
In conjunction with its operations, Anthropic has introduced the Model Context Protocol (MCP) as an open-source standard, intended to connect AI applications with external systems. This tool is crucial for enhancing interoperability among AI platforms.
Through these initiatives, Anthropic reinforces its commitment to responsible AI and its dedication to improving life quality and economic opportunity across India.
