A 26-year-old Indian-origin woman, Navneet Kaur, was fatally shot in Toronto, Canada, in what police are describing as a targeted attack. The incident occurred near Humberwood Boulevard and Rexdale Boulevard early in the morning on July 27, 2026.

Toronto police reported that Kaur was approached by a man who spoke to her briefly for approximately 30 seconds before shooting her once and walking away. Emergency responders arrived quickly but were unable to save her, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

In connection with the shooting, police arrested 37-year-old Shranjeet Singh from Brampton, Ontario. Singh has been charged with first-degree murder and failure to comply with an undertaking. He is scheduled for a court hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto.

Duty Inspector Scott Bradbury confirmed that the authorities have deemed the attack targeted and that the public is not at risk. Witnesses reported seeing a man conversing with Kaur moments before the shooting.

Authorities are continuing their investigation but have not revealed a motive for the attack. It remains unclear if Kaur and Singh were acquainted prior to the incident. Police are appealing to anyone with information regarding the case to come forward to assist in their ongoing inquiries.
