Indian Navy Was Minutes Away from Striking Pakistan, Admiral Reveals
During a recent naval investiture ceremony held in Mumbai, Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi shared that the Navy was mere minutes away from conducting a strike against Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, which followed a terror incident in Pahalgam last year. Admiral Tripathi explained that a request was made for a 'stoppage of kinetic actions' just prior to the planned operation. He stated, 'It is now not a hidden fact that we were just minutes away from striking Pakistan from the sea.' The ceremony also involved the awarding of Yudh Seva Medals to two distinguished naval officers for their exceptional service during the operation.
In his address, Admiral Tripathi commented on the broader geopolitical landscape, specifically regarding the ongoing conflict in West Asia. He highlighted that since the escalation of tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, there have been over 20 attacks on merchant vessels in the region. This situation has created significant disruption, with nearly 1,900 vessels reported stranded amid the hostilities. The Admiral noted that the daily maritime traffic through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz has drastically decreased. He indicated that the average number of daily transits has fallen to only six or seven, in stark contrast to the pre-conflict average of approximately 130.
Admiral Tripathi's remarks reflect the increasingly complex security situation in the region and underscore the challenges faced by maritime operations amidst rising tensions. As geopolitical dynamics continue to evolve, naval strategic readiness remains a focal concern for not only India but for many nations operating within these vital sea lanes.
