Karnataka Deploys 7,748 Personnel for Upcoming Census
In a significant step towards effective governance, the Mysuru Deputy Commissioner, G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, has announced the deployment of 7,748 personnel for the upcoming census in Karnataka. This announcement was made during a press conference held on April 1, 2026.
Mr. Reddy highlighted the importance of accurate census data in informing government policies and welfare programmes. He noted that the Census 2027 initiative is crucial for understanding the living conditions of residents, which in turn will enable the government to develop better-targeted services.
The census will be conducted in two distinct phases. The first phase, which involves self-enumeration and household listing, is scheduled to take place from April 1 to May 15, 2026. The second phase, focusing on individual enumeration, is planned for February 2027.
Citizens are encouraged to participate in the self-enumeration process by accessing the official website, www.se.census.gov.in, where they can answer 33 questions pertaining to their housing and household circumstances. Mr. Reddy appealed to the public to engage actively with the census process, underscoring that widespread participation is vital for its success.
To facilitate the data collection, the Mysuru district administration has established 6,013 enumeration blocks and trained personnel, which includes 6,540 enumerators and 1,207 supervisors. The comprehensive scope of the census aims to gather data on several socio-economic and cultural factors, including literacy levels, education, housing conditions, urbanisation, fertility rates, and information on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
P. Shivaraju, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru, and G.S. Somashekar, the Mysuru City Census Officer and Deputy Commissioner of the Mysuru City Corporation, were also present at the announcement, reinforcing the collective commitment to the success of this important initiative.
