India's Thomas Cup 2026 Campaign: Match Summary Against China
India faces China in the Thomas Cup 2026, with HS Prannoy securing a win in a 2-3 tie. Summary of matches highlights India's performance.

In the Thomas Cup 2026 Group A tie held in Horsens, Denmark, India faced a challenging match against China. Although India suffered a 2-3 defeat, their veteran player, HS Prannoy, managed to record a victory in the final match, providing a silver lining to the team's overall performance.

HS Prannoy took on Lu Guang Zu, ranked World No. 23, and triumphed after losing the first game, scoring 20-22, then bouncing back to win the next two games 21-19, 21-11. Despite the victory, India finished second in the group and will need to prepare for a challenging knockout match against one of the top teams.

The tie did not start favourably for India, with Lakshya Sen losing to Li Shi Feng. Lakshya, India's top singles player, fought hard after losing the first game 19-21 but won the second 21-8. However, he could not maintain the momentum, ultimately losing the deciding game.

In men's doubles, the pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty faced a tough battle against China’s Liang/Wang. The match showcased intense exchanges, but India lost after winning one game 21-13 and losing two consecutive games, ending with scores of 13-21, 21-13, and 15-21.

A highlight for India was young talent Ayush Shetty, who displayed resilience against Weng Hong Yang, overcoming an initial set loss of 17-21. Shetty recovered excellently to win the next two games 21-13, 21-15, marking a significant personal victory against a higher-ranked opponent.

In contrast, the second doubles team of MR Arjun and Hariharan faced little competition, succumbing in straight games with scores of 21-17, 21-13, within just 35 minutes.

As the fifth and final match began, HS Prannoy struggled initially against Lu Guang Zu, losing the first game 20-22. However, his later success brought some hope to the Indian camp amid the mounting pressure.

Overall, with a final tally of 2-3 against China, India will look to build on the positives from the matches, especially focusing on Prannoy's strong finish and Shetty's promising performance to bolster their prospects in upcoming knockout stages. India’s next match will be crucial as they now face one of the group leaders, representing a significant challenge ahead.
