India secures a dominant victory over South Africa in the third T20I, led by impressive seam bowling, taking a 2-1 lead in the series.

DHARAMSHALA: In a remarkable display of seam bowling, India defeated South Africa by seven wickets in the third T20 International on Sunday evening, taking a 2-1 lead in the series. Under the lights and in chilly conditions, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and opted to bowl first, a decision that proved to be pivotal.

The match unfolded at a venue known for high-scoring games, but South Africa struggled to adapt, managing to score only 117 runs. The innings was largely bolstered by Aiden Markram, who scored 61 runs off 46 balls, showcasing his batting prowess amidst a flurry of wickets.

India's seamers, particularly Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana, exploited the conditions effectively, dismantling the South African batting order. By the end of the powerplay, South Africa found themselves in trouble at 25 runs for the loss of three wickets. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana claimed the crucial early wickets of openers Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock, both out leg before wicket. Rana later removed Dewald Brevis, further pressing the advantage for the hosts.

Markram stood as a lone figure against the relentless bowling attack, demonstrating excellent technique and timing. His innings included six fours and two sixes, providing a glimmer of hope for South Africa. However, the rest of the batting lineup faltered against the Indian bowlers, with every seam bowler, including Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube, contributing to the wicket tally.

The Indian bowlers not only compensated for Jasprit Bumrah's unexpected withdrawal from the match but also provided much-needed relief to their batting counterparts. The bowlers restricted South Africa to a modest total, allowing India to chase down the target comfortably.

In response, India's batting began with Abhishek Sharma, who scored an aggressive 35 runs off 18 balls, setting a positive tone for the innings. Shubman Gill, however, faced challenges at the crease, scoring 28 runs off 28 balls amid several close calls.

India reached the target in just 15.5 overs, finishing at 120 runs for the loss of three wickets. Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 26 runs, joining Shivam Dube, who also finished not out. Suryakumar Yadav’s performance was less impactful, as he contributed only 12 runs from 11 balls.

Despite India’s efficient win, the team’s fielding left something to be desired, with three catches dropped during the match. Nevertheless, the bowling performance was the highlight, with Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakravarthy standing out, each taking two wickets for minimal runs.

As the series progresses, the emphasis will be on maintaining this momentum as both teams prepare for the next match. The Indian team will look to build on this performance, while South Africa will need to regroup and address their batting vulnerabilities ahead of the upcoming fixtures.
