India to Offer Counter-Terrorism Expertise at ASEAN Meeting
Indian Defence Minister announces country's readiness to share anti-terror tactics with ASEAN during upcoming conference.

India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has expressed the country's willingness to share its extensive, proven expertise in counter-terrorism with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). This announcement was made ahead of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus, scheduled to take place in the Philippines.

Rajnath Singh's remarks highlight India's commitment to enhancing security cooperation in the region. The move comes in response to increasing concerns over terrorism and violent extremism in Southeast Asia.

ASEAN comprises ten member states and plays a significant role in regional stability and security dynamics. The ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus includes Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Russia, India, and the United States, laying a foundation for broader defence collaboration.

The meeting aims to strengthen partnerships to combat shared challenges. Rajnath Singh further elaborated on the importance of collective efforts to ensure a secure environment in the Indo-Pacific, emphasising that India is keen to collaborate with ASEAN nations to address any looming threats.

Rajnath Singh stated, “Through shared experiences and capabilities, we can effectively confront terrorism.” This underscores India's proactive stance towards regional security rather than solely focusing on bilateral relations.

India’s involvement in the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus represents a strategic pivot, aiming to deepen ties with Southeast Asian countries amid rising geopolitical tensions in the region. India seeks to position itself as a reliable partner for defence and security, especially in the context of Indo-Pacific strategies that involve multi-national collaboration against common threats.

The upcoming conference is expected to cover a range of topics, from maritime security to cyber threats, reflecting the evolving nature of challenges faced by ASEAN and its partners.

As the meeting approaches, member nations are likely to engage in discussions that reinforce collective security measures, underlining the significance of collaborations like that of ASEAN and India to address contemporary security challenges effectively.
