India Ends 12-Year Winless Streak Against South Africa in ODI
India secures a pivotal ODI victory over South Africa, marking their first win against the Proteas since 2013, led by Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

India's cricket team achieved a significant milestone on December 6, 2025, by defeating South Africa in the third One Day International (ODI) match held in Visakhapatnam. This victory marked India's first win against South Africa in an ODI since 2013, ending a 12-year winless streak against the Proteas.

Chasing a target of 271 runs, India began their innings with a solid partnership between Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who combined for 155 runs for the opening wicket. This was the first century opening stand for India against South Africa in ODIs since 2013, when Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan scored 127 runs during a Champions Trophy match in Cardiff.

Rohit Sharma's 75 runs came off 80 balls and included several powerful shots, while Jaiswal showcased his talent by scoring his maiden ODI century, finishing with an unbeaten 116 runs off 121 balls. Jaiswal's performance was instrumental in guiding India to victory, with Virat Kohli contributing a brisk 65 runs not out to ensure the chase was completed comfortably in 39.5 overs.

Earlier in the match, South Africa had set a target of 270 runs, largely thanks to Quinton de Kock's impressive innings of 106 runs off 89 deliveries. Despite his efforts, South Africa struggled to build partnerships, with captain Temba Bavuma contributing 48 runs. India’s bowlers, notably Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna, excelled, taking four wickets each and restricting South Africa's batting.

Kuldeep Yadav's performance was particularly noteworthy, as he recorded his fifth four-wicket haul against South Africa, becoming the third Indian bowler to achieve such a feat in ODIs, surpassing legendary bowlers like Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath.

The match concluded with a heartwarming moment as Rohit Sharma embraced Virat Kohli, a gesture that resonated with fans and symbolised the camaraderie shared between the two senior players. This victory not only highlights India's resurgence in ODI cricket but also sets a positive tone for their future matches.

As India prepares for upcoming challenges, this win serves as a reminder of their capabilities on the international stage. The series win, concluding with a 2-1 scoreline, showcases the depth and talent within the Indian squad, promising an exciting future for Indian cricket.
