Imran Khan's Sister Visits Him Amid Death Rumours and Protests
Uzma Khan meets former Prime Minister Imran Khan in jail as protests escalate over his treatment amid claims of mental torture and health concerns.

Uzma Khan, the sister of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, was granted access to visit her brother in Adiala Jail on Tuesday evening. This meeting occurred amid rising tensions and threats of mass protests across Rawalpindi by members of Khan's party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), following persistent speculation regarding his wellbeing and claims of mistreatment in custody.

The visit took place against a backdrop of alarming reports suggesting that Imran Khan was murdered while in detention. However, following her meeting, Uzma Khan stated that her brother was in relatively good health but was kept in solitary confinement and facing psychological distress. "Imran Khan is fine, his health is good. He has been kept in solitary confinement, he is being tortured mentally," she informed the media after the visit.

Uzma Khan further revealed that her brother has had no contact with others and expressed anger towards military leadership, specifically naming General Asim Munir as responsible for his situation. The family has previously alleged that Khan was being held in a so-called "death cell," and had been denied visitation rights for several weeks, contradicting court orders.

As tensions escalated outside Adiala Jail, supporters of the former Prime Minister called for significant demonstrations in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, demanding the restoration of visitation rights. The government, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, responded by imposing restrictions on large gatherings and enhancing security around the prison.

On the day of the meeting, five additional checkpoints were established around Adiala Jail, with over 700 security personnel deployed, equipped with anti-riot gear, to manage the situation. This increased security followed a week of protests and sit-ins orchestrated by Imran Khan’s family and supporters, during which reports emerged of police aggression against his sisters.

In an earlier statement, the Adiala Jail administration insisted that Imran Khan was healthy and receiving adequate medical care, denying any claims of his transfer from the facility. They stated, "There is no truth to reports about his (Imran) transfer from Adiala jail. He is fully healthy."

The meeting between Uzma Khan and her brother has brought some relief to supporters who have been alarmed by the lack of information regarding Imran Khan's situation over the past few weeks. The former Prime Minister has been imprisoned for over two years, facing various corruption and terrorism charges, which have drawn widespread criticism and concern from both national and international observers.

As the situation develops, both the government and Imran Khan's supporters remain on high alert, with the potential for further unrest in the coming days. The outcome of these tensions will likely depend on the government’s response to the demands for transparency regarding Imran Khan's treatment within the prison system.
