Heavy Rain Forecasted in Telangana Districts Including Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Several districts in Telangana, including the capital city Hyderabad, have experienced moderate to heavy rainfall as the region emerges from a long dry spell in September. According to data from the Telangana Development Planning Society (TDPS), significant rainfall was recorded on Sunday, with Kothapalle in Karimnagar district receiving the highest amount of 76 millimetres. Other areas also reported substantial rainfall, including Narayanraopet in Siddipet which saw 58 millimetres, Wargal with 52.3 millimetres, Jukkal at 55 millimetres, and Jagtial at 53.5 millimetres.

In urban centres like Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri, localised rain events led to minor incidents of waterlogging. For instance, Kapra mandal in Medchal-Malkajgiri received 36.5 millimetres, while the city of Hyderabad's Musheerabad mandal recorded 34.8 millimetres. These downpours have resulted in cooler atmospheric conditions, providing some relief from the high temperatures typically associated with this time of year.

This current weather pattern is part of conditions created by a low-pressure area that has formed over the north Andaman Sea, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The low-pressure system is expected to intensify and bring further rain across the region, following forecasts of thunderstorms and lightning in several parts of Telangana.

Rainfall variability has been noted across the state, with some districts sustaining deficits during the current southwest monsoon season. Hyderabad has thus far recorded 436.6 millimetres of rain against a normal of 568.4 millimetres, marking a significant shortfall.

As the rainy weather continues, residents are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and plan their activities accordingly, especially in light of the potential for further heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in the coming days.
