Greta Thunberg Backs Indian Student Protests at London Rally

Swedish activist Greta Thunberg has expressed her support for recent student protests in India, describing them as an embodiment of what she termed 'the true meaning of people power.' Thunberg made her remarks during a rally in Trafalgar Square, London, where she rallied in solidarity with Indian youth.

The protests in India have been spearheaded by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) since June, focusing on issues surrounding the national eligibility entrance test (NEET) exam allegations. Activists, including Thunberg, highlighted the movement's broader implications for democracy and justice. Thunberg stated, 'The Indian student protest has made us all proud! They have given us hope! They show what we can accomplish when people come together and resist.'

The protests gained momentum following accusations of exam irregularities, culminating in the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. On 25 July, Pradhan announced he had resigned, accepting responsibility for the alleged NEET exam paper leak, yet he faced criticism for labelling the protests as 'anti-national.'

Furthermore, the CJP engaged in discussions with Indian government ministers to address various demands made by protestors, including maximum compensation for families affected by the exam issues and assurances against legal repercussions for participants involved in the protests. Following these negotiations, the CJP declared the end of the protests and urged participants to return home.

Thunberg’s involvement showcases an increasing global engagement with youth-led movements advocating for social justice and accountability.
