Fatal Plane Crash on Texas Highway Results in One Casualty
A small aircraft crashed on Loop 20, a busy highway in Laredo, Texas, on the night of June 16, 2026, leading to chaos and one confirmed death. Authorities reported that six individuals were on the plane at the time of the incident.
The plane went down shortly after 10 p.m., according to Jose Baeza, an investigator with the Laredo Police Department. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of injuries among motorists on the highway. Following the crash, Loop 20 was temporarily closed in both directions.
Eyewitness accounts detail the frantic response to the accident. Zayra Garza, an esthetician returning home with her coworkers, captured video footage as she approached the scene. She saw the aircraft, which had overturned and was on fire. Several bystanders attempted to assist individuals trapped inside the plane by trying to force open the cockpit window.
Garza described the scene as surreal, noting, “It looked like part of a movie. I was in shock.” She expressed concern about the fire, fearing it could lead to an explosion at any moment. Her husband reportedly joined others in trying to help,
Video footage also depicted the plane on its side against a highway barrier, flames enveloping parts of the fuselage. Garza witnessed three individuals, who appeared to be teenagers, exit the plane, followed by a person who seemed to be the pilot. Efforts were made by a crew member to pull out someone who appeared unconscious.
Emergency response teams arrived on location shortly after the crash to address the situation and investigate the cause. The investigation continues, with police officials working to uncover what led to this tragic incident.
