Enforcement Directorate Attaches Anil Ambani's Rs 3717 Crore Property
The Enforcement Directorate has executed an attachment of Anil Ambani's residence, known as 'Abode', located in Mumbai, with a valuation of Rs 3716.83 crore. This action is connected to a broader investigation into allegations of money laundering associated with the Reliance Communications group, which Ambani heads.
Located in the affluent area of Pali Hill, 'Abode' is a 66-metre tall building featuring 17 floors. Reports indicate that prior to this latest action, a portion of the property had already been attached for Rs 473.17 crore. Following these measures, the total value of properties linked to the investigation now exceeds Rs 15,700 crore.
The Enforcement Directorate stated that Reliance Communications, along with its associated companies, borrowed significant sums from both national and international banks, with outstanding loans amounting to Rs 40,185 crore.
Anil Ambani has been summoned to appear before the Directorate of Enforcement on Thursday and has committed to participate fully in the ongoing investigation. This development follows a recent undertaking in the Supreme Court, where Ambani stated that he is not a flight risk and intends to comply with the legal process.
Less than a week ago, the Supreme Court expressed dissatisfaction regarding what it termed as an 'unexplained delay' in investigations, instructing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate to conduct expedited and impartial inquiries into allegations of fraud that are reportedly valued at around Rs 40,000 crore. This figure pertains to alleged banking and corporate malfeasance involving the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG).
