Denmark and Greenland have clarified that a forthcoming military agreement with the United States will not compromise Greenland's sovereignty. This announcement follows previous statements by former President Donald Trump suggesting that the US would gain 'permanent control' over security in the territory. In a joint statement issued on Saturday, both the Danish government and the Greenlandic authorities expressed optimism that this deal would resolve ongoing tensions with the US regarding security in the Arctic region.

Greenland’s Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, welcomed the proposed agreement, stating that it acknowledges the territory's right to self-determination. 'The agreement recognizes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our kingdom,' he noted in his remarks. Denmark’s Foreign Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, echoed this sentiment, stating that the anticipated signing of the agreement during next week's United Nations General Assembly could mark a positive development for all involved parties.
