Delhi Experiences Second CNG Price Increase in Just 48 Hours

Residents of Delhi and surrounding Northern Indian cities are facing a second increase in the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) within a span of 48 hours. Starting from Sunday, the cost of this alternative fuel rose by ₹1 per kilogram, bringing the retail price to ₹80.09 per kilogram in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi. This hike follows a previous increase of ₹2 per kilogram that occurred on Friday, May 15, 2026.

Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL), the largest distributor of CNG in Northern India, issued a statement explaining that the adjustment aims to partially mitigate the rise in input gas costs as well as the significant appreciation of the United States dollar. ‘The revision in retail prices of CNG has been effected only to marginally offset the impact of increase in input gas cost along with steep appreciation of USD,’ the statement noted. The company further added that despite this increase, CNG continues to provide savings of up to 45% in fuel costs compared to other fuel alternatives currently available.

In addition to Delhi, CNG prices have also risen in various locations across Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Haryana. For instance, in Noida and Ghaziabad, the effective price is now ₹88.70 per kilogram, while Meerut’s price stands at ₹88.58 per kilogram. In Rajasthan, areas like Pali and Ajmer will see CNG costing ₹89.44 per kilogram. In Haryana, prices are set at ₹84.70 per kilogram in Rewari and ₹85.12 per kilogram in Gurugram.

The hike reflects a broader trend as other regional operators across India have also initiated price increases within the same timeframe. As fuel prices continue to rise, the implications for consumers and transport operators remain significant, prompting discussions about alternative energies and their viability in the market.
