Deepika Padukone to Continue Raaka Filming with Body Double
Actress Deepika Padukone is set to continue her role in the upcoming film Raaka, directed by Atlee Kumar. The project features her alongside actor Allu Arjun and marks the second collaboration between Padukone and Atlee following the success of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which achieved blockbuster status.
Reports indicate that Deepika still has around 50 days of filming left to complete her role in Raaka. Since she is currently expecting a baby, filmmakers are reportedly planning to use a body double for the more intense action sequences, prioritising her safety throughout the production.
An industry source shared that Atlee was both supportive and proactive upon learning about Padukone’s pregnancy. Instead of being concerned about the production timetable, he is working with his team to implement a backup plan. Significant action scenes will be filmed using a body double, while the actress will focus on shooting her dramatic performances. Previously, Deepika has already completed various close-up shots, which will be enhanced with visual effects in the final version of the film.
While the use of a body double will enable her to engage in action sequences, her character remains integral to the storyline and maintains an emotional arc. A source from the production confirmed that her role is still pivotal and will not be altered despite the pregnancy.
As the production progresses, the film is also expected to feature popular actresses Rashmika Mandanna, Janhvi Kapoor, and Mrunal Thakur, making Raaka one of the highly anticipated releases in the coming years. The film is slated for release in 2027, drawing considerable attention for its ensemble cast and production approach.
Deepika Padukone publicly announced her pregnancy on Instagram on April 19 with a heartwarming post featuring her daughter, Dua Singh Padukone, holding a pregnancy test. Prior to this, on February 29, 2024, she had shared her pregnancy news alongside husband Ranveer Singh by posting a photograph showcasing baby essentials in gender-neutral colours. The couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl, in September 2024, later revealing her name during the Diwali festivities, with the name “Dua” meaning “prayer.”
