Cocktail 2 Secures Adults-Only Rating Ahead of June Release
Cocktail 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2012 romantic comedy, has been granted an 'A' certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ahead of its release on June 19. The film, which stars Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna, has retained all its romantic and intimate scenes, with no visual cuts mandated by the CBFC.
The board requested a few audio modifications in the film. Specifically, a cuss word that appeared in a subtitle was removed. Additionally, the word 'Agni' has been replaced with 'Diya' in various instances throughout the movie. A reference to 'Jew on the run' has also been censored, although the context of this phrase remains unspecified in the CBFC order.
These amendments enabled Cocktail 2 to receive its certification on June 16. The film has a runtime of 149 minutes and 19 seconds. The original Cocktail film featured Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty, and was directed by Homi Adajania.
The sequel is not only significant for its adult rating but also marks the first such film for Kriti Sanon in her 12-year career. For Rashmika Mandanna, this represents her second adult-rated Hindi film, following the success of Animal earlier in 2023. Shahid Kapoor, already seasoned in adult-rated films, will now have two consecutive releases rated for mature audiences, including the upcoming O'Romeo, expected to release later in 2026.
Cocktail 2 is produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films alongside Luv Ranjan's Luv Films and directed by Homi Adajania. The screenplay is crafted by Tarun Jain and Luv Ranjan, promising the same engaging narrative style as its predecessor. As the film approaches its release date, fans anticipate a blend of romance and relatable humour characteristic of the original while remaining accessible to an adult audience.
